I waited patiently for the LORD; and He inclined to me and heard my cry.  He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, and He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.  How blessed is the man ho has made the LORD his trust . . .”Ps 40:1-2, 4a

But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ . . .Eph 2:4, 5

I was spending some time with God this evening, and a thought dawned on me.  The love of God is great.

To whom then will you liken God?  Or what likeness will you compare with Him?  As for the idol, a craftsman casts it, a goldsmity plates it with gold, and a silversmith fashions chains of silver.  He who is too impoverished for such an offering selects a tree that does not rot; he seeks out for himself a skillful craftsman to prepare an idol that will not totter. Is 40:18-20 (More)

“When He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.”Job 23:10b

Imagine if you were to offer to your wife a beautiful lump of gold ore hanging from a chain or maybe to your fiancée on the day that you propose marriage to her.  What do you think the reaction would be to the lump of impure gold?  The reality is this:  the purity and higher value of gold comes through the process of refinement.  That can only happen through the heat and pressure of the crucible. (More)

“You have tried us, O God; You have refined us as silver is refined.”  Ps 66:10

Gold and silver are two of the most precious metals on earth.  When they are brought out of the ground, though, they are filled with impurities and in dire need of refining.  The first part of the process is to subject these precious metals to a furnace that heats them to their melting point.  For gold this means a heat of more than 1948 F.  The second part for gold is to subject the melted gold to a chemical process which refines it to 99.5% pure. (More)
