I was spending some time with God this evening, and a thought dawned on me. The love of God is great.
I know – this is something that we all know and have all sung song about in Sunday School. But, how often do we truly contemplate the love of God? Think for just a moment about the love of God. Think about where you would be without the love of God. I know where I would be, and I know where I would be heading. However, there is one thing that changed the course of my life – But God . . . because of His great love!
God loved me so much that He sent Jesus Christ down to this earth to take on the humble form of man, to walk the roads and the country side of this world, to talk to His creation, to suffer ridicule, and to ultimately suffer the horror of the Cross – because He loves me! He loves me!! That, friends, is the ultimate in understanding. God loves you and me. He chooses unconditionally to pour out on us His divine favor, to extend to us the wonderful gift of Grace so that you and I can be forgiven of our sins. He did that with no prompting from me nor from you. He simply chose to love us.
If we can understand, at least in part, the great love which God displayed to us; then I think that we can begin to display that love to those around us. It is God’s love that we must express to the world around us – even to our enemies, as hard as it is to do.
Lord God, help me to love with Your love. Help me to understand the length to which You went to love me. Help me to love others as You would have me love. Amen
