Ordinary Man . . . Extraordinary God
The last time I checked there are no super human beings. There is no Superman or Spiderman. Hate to break it to you, but superheroes are all the work of someone’s imagination. The truth of the matter is that we are all just ordinary men. Ladies, if you are holding out for a superhero to marry, you are going to be waiting a long time. Wives, if you are hoping that you will wake up one morning next to Clark Kent, you just keep sleeping and dreaming.
The truth of the matter is that the man you married will not don a pair of tights and a cape and rescue the world with superhuman strength. The reality is that your man probably walks to the bathroom in the morning in a pair of boxers, scratching his rear end, and emitting noises that cause you to wrinkle your nose. The man that you married wakes up with a brillo pad face and bad breath. His snores probably keep you awake at night. He probably could stand to loose a few pounds around the middle. He might even need to loose a lot of pounds. He sometimes smells like a whole locker room at the end of a long day’s work. Your man might sweat buckets at the slightest work. Let’s just face the facts, men are men.
Despite all the things that make us men, there is one thing that is truly remarkable. God chooses to use us men to lead our families. God takes an ordinary man with all of his faults and uses him.
Ladies, you may be married or looking to marry. Let me tell you, as a man, the most important thing you can do for your husband or future husband is to pray passionately for your husband. Pray hard and pray often for him. There are a great many distractions and pit falls that lay in the path of your man every day. Satan desires to destroy the man of the house because the man of the house is the tool that God uses to lead the family. Satan loves to see men fall into sin. Satan loves to see men discouraged and destroyed. Ladies, if you truly love God and desire to have a great marriage – not just a good marriage – then you must pray for your man.
Your man, the one you go to sleep next to every night and wake up next to every morning is an ordinary man called by an extraordinary God to accomplish a task that is far out of his league. Most of us men try to do it on our own and fail. If I may, allow me to give you some ways to pray for your man.
Pray for him to lead his family through the Word of God. Pray for him to take the role of prophet (if I may use that thought) very seriously. If you remember, the prophet of the Old Testament often declared the Word of God. It was the task of the prophet to encourage and to confront. Pray that your husband will wrap himself in God’s Word and lead you through the lessons God teaches him through that glorious written Word.
Pray for him to lead his family into worship. Pray that your husband will take seriously the role of priest. It was the task to the Old Testament priest to prepare and to lead the people in worship of God Almighty. Pray that God will continually keep your husband’s heart clean and pure before Him so that your husband will lead you to praise and glorify your God.
Pray for him to lead his family well. Pray that your husband will understand his role as king (if I may, for the purpose of analogy). It was the task of the good king to lead and to protect those he ruled over. God has lain upon the shoulders of your husband the awesome task and responsibility to lead his family (Eph 5:25-30). Your husband has been called to be the head of your home. He has been called by God to lead.
Perhaps, your husband is not doing what he has been called by God to do. Perhaps he does not lead you into God’s Word or prayer or into worship or perhaps he does not lead at all. Then, all I can say to you is to get on your face before God daily and pray your heart out that God will change the heart of your man. Pray often! Pray fervently! Never give up on your husband – never. Your God is an extraordinary God.
Allow me for a moment to rehearse for you about your extraordinary God. Your God created the entire world that we know today in just six days – with just His words. Your God split the Red Sea to allow His people safe passage from Pharoah. Your God backed up the waters of the Jordan to help Israel enter the Promised Land. Your God defeated the enemies of Israel on numerous occasions. Your God split the earth and swallowed alive those men and their families who rebelled against Moses. Of all the things that God did, He sacrificed His only Son. He provided a way of salvation through the Cross of Calvary so that you and I do not have to spend an eternity in torment to pay for our sins. Your God has proven beyond any doubt how extraordinary He is.
If your husband is difficult, selfish, not doing what he ought to do, or just being an ordinary guy; pray fervently for him. Many times, lives are changed through the prayers of the faithful. Many times, lives are changed through the example of the godly.
The greatest thing you can do for your husband or future husband is to pray for him to be the man who leans on his extraordinary God.

I must say amen to your post. I have always thought that behind every good man was an even better woman. A praying wife is something to be cherished. God Bless You!
